Three day weekend = getaway time! This Columbus Day Weekend we traveled by boat to 1000 Islands. 1000 Islands is a string of 105 islands stretching 30 miles north of our home with the closest island only a few miles off mainland Jakarta. The area is a marine national park although development is allowed on 37 of the islands. Some islands are uninhabited, others have resorts and a number of them are privately owned by wealthy Jakartans.
A group of 8 traveled from the Jakarta Bay to Sepa Island where we stayed in little cottages right on the beach. The island is very small but very fun. We hired two speed boats on Day 1 to take us around to about 6 of the islands to check out the resorts and snorkel in the water. We went to one island called Dolphin Island which is uninhabited where we did most of our snorkeling.
Each weekend Sepa Island hires a band to play so we spent most of the night dancing and singing with the band. You will see from the pictures that we also had a friendly game of volleyball where we made our own net and tiki torches. Turns out if we had just asked the resort, they would have set up a volleyball net for us. Oh well, it was more fun acting as if we were on "survivor." The band joined us for our late night bonfire. One of our friends, Lance, brought and played his ukalelei which made the tropical bonfire campfire and smores even more entertaining. Stars were beautiful as we ate smores, listened to some music, and just hung out on the beach. 
The second day we spent on the beach at Sepa. The weather was perfect and we had a wonderful time.
